What is inclusive child care?
Inclusion means serving children with disabilities together with their typically developing peers. Inclusive programs provide quality care to all children and provide lessons of acceptance of each other for our individual strengths and needs.

How do I find an inclusive program?
There are some specialized programs available; however, there are other programs that are not specialized that offer inclusive care. You can call The Family ConservancySM to get a list of community programs in your area. Missouri resource & referral agencies have a grant to provide enhanced services to families looking for care for their children with special needs.

What if a provider will not take my child due to disabilities?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law that entitles people with disabilities to the same rights in employment, state and local services, and public accommodations like restaurants, movie theaters, and child care settings.

The ADA states that enrollment policies and procedures should not intentionally – or unintentionally – exclude children with disabilities. Using criteria that screens out children with disabilities would be considered a violation of the law. See http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/adahom1.htm for more information.
